Briefing

As BMW’s xEV portfolio grew, so did its complexity. Sales consultants, product geniuses and after-sales staff across more than twenty thousand touchpoints needed consistent, reliable information to advise customers well. The Charging Solution Navigator was designed to solve exactly that: a platform that evaluates individual needs and delivers appropriate recommendations, drawing from a single point of truth shared across all BMW channels.

The CSN gave me the space to work in real depth, following a complex problem through all its layers from information architecture to final prototype.

BMW provided a style guide, but one that left meaningful room for interpretation. Within that framework I was responsible for the information architecture, navigation logic, how users were guided through their inputs, and how results were presented. Card design, layout and prototyping including micro-interactions were developed largely by me.

The central design challenge was making a sophisticated data model feel simple and trustworthy to two very different audiences. Take Jane: she owns a BMW iX3, commutes 50km daily and wants the flexibility for spontaneous weekend trips. A sales consultant can run her profile through the CSN and get a tailored recommendation in seconds. But Jane might also want to explore her options herself at home, without talking to anyone. Designing for both scenarios without creating two separate products was where most of the real decisions happened.

At a critical point mid-project, I took shared responsibility with the consulting team to keep things moving and ensure we could present on schedule. That kind of ownership, beyond the immediate design brief, shaped how I think about project work.
